Choosing a Healing Professional

People - General 1361With so many different modalities and healing professionals out there, it can seem like a daunting task in choosing a healing professional.

How can we better navigate finding the right healer for us?

Here are some tips, guidelines and considerations

Good feel. You should get a good feel from the person and the modality. Also, pay close attention to your inner gut feeling. Read about them on their website. The website should include details about their focus, goals and their trainings. Take time to read their message, finding out more about who they are and what they are about. In person, you should feel comfortable and relaxed around them and during the session.

Watch for boastful or false claims. One site stated they had done over 20,000 clinical trials done. This just simply isn’t possible. Clinical trials are expensive and time consuming. The government also mandates that all U.S. clinical trials must be listed on the government site, ClinicalTrials.gov. This is a great resource for people to know about so that they can verify claims of having their device or modality in clinical trials. Thus, another false claim can be ‘being FDA approved.’ In order to be FDA approved, the device or therapy has to conduct official clinical trials. Easy searches can be done on ClinicalTrials.gov.

Inquiries

Ask for referrals from friends. One of the best ways to find a good healer, is to ask others. Be sure to inquire what the healer helped them with and what the modality was. Different people are drawn to different modalities. If the modality doesn’t make sense to you, it’s likely to not be effective. Accordingly, choose both a modality and a healer who resonates with you.P1190447

Ask questions. Keep in mind that every healer and modality cannot treat every person and condition. An authentic professional has a good idea of what (and whom) they can and cannot help. And, they should be skilled and experience enough to know and be practicing this. Keep in mind, it’s ok to inquire with the professional about their area of expertise and style.

Other Tips and Considerations

  1. Credentials and trainings. Although, there are some intuitives and healers with natural born gifts who came into this world ready to go with their skills and abilities, that is not the majority. Even so, there is always sharpening and skills development needed. The healing professional should have listed on their website how they obtained the skills they have with continued development.
  2. Testimonials –All websites should have a list of comments from clients. Reading them will help. Do they make sense and speak to you?
  3. Accessibility – Professional should be accessible. Their website should contain real ways to contact them or their office

Self-evaluation

Take a moment to consider what it is you need help with. Someone who just feels ‘stuck’ emotionally will need different skills from a healer than someone with deep trauma or PTSD. Hence, look for practitioners who can articulate being able to help you with what you need.

Partners

The best healers are ones who partner with you. True healing comes from within, and a good practitioner will know that they are only bringing this out in you. Also, you should have a sense of being heard and respected. The truth is, it’s hard to ask for help with healing. It can be a very vulnerable time. You should get a sense from the healer that they understand this and will work ‘with’ you to create your healing plan.People - General 194
