When You Lose Yourself: Redirecting Your Life

There are occasions, invariably, when one loses oneself.  What is meant by this is, that you find you’ve gotten caught up in something or gone down a wrong road. This is an article on redirecting your life.

Sometimes, the next step we take seems right at the time, but ultimately, we find ourselves in a place we know is bad. This could pertain to things like decisions we’ve made, attitudes we have or relationships we’ve engaged in.

Redirecting your life

What do we do when we find ourselves in this situation?

095The first thing to do is to give yourself credit for recognizing that you want to be on a better path. This is huge. Be objective here. More so, it will do you absolutely no good to berate yourself or ruminate about where you are. This is an essential part of supporting and encouraging yourself in the path that you want take.

Next, acknowledge and give yourself great credit and support for wanting to be in a better place and redirect your life.

The second step is to correct what you can now.

I started playing tennis a short time ago. The organization has a Tennis Code of rules. One thing I love about them is it states things simply and smartly.

For example, in the situation of when you realize that the score is incorrect or you’re serving from the wrong side, the direction is not to play out where you are, but to ‘correct the error immediately’ as soon as it is realized. What great advise, in tennis and in life. Thus, correcting an error as soon as you can is a great step in redirecting your life.

I once bought a large house in a new place and 6 months into it, I realized it was a mistake. Not only did I not want the mortgage and upkeep, it was a difficult environment for me. I wasn’t finding the community I had hoped for. So, at the point that was clear to me, I started activities to move in another direction. Though it took time, it put me on a new path and was one of the best decision I ever made.

Next would be to take and honest look at where you are.

Correct what you can now. Also, it is also helpful to see and envision where you want to be. This is essential and a developed skill. It will allow you the vision, foundation and ability to make a plan to get to where you want to be. Think about the steps that are needed to get you where you want to be.

Remember: All transformation begins with a step in a different direction.

Redirecting your life starts by going in another direction, in the direction of where you want to be.

This assessment can help us stay on track towards our wants and goals. It’s a vital tool in redirecting our life.

Engaging with a life coach or counseling professional can also provide fantastic support, perspective and guidance in helping you along the way to achieving your goals. Choose someone who has a good feel and would be a good partner with you. Sometimes supporting our self involves allowing the support and assistance of others. I’d be delighted to work with you on this!
