We are all familiar with who the Bodhisattva is. For those who are not, in Mahayana Buddhism, a Bodhisattva is a person who is able to reach nirvana (an enlightened state or paradise), but chooses to delay doing so completely out of compassion in order to help other suffering beings by offering assistance to help bring them to enlightenment.
Bodhisattvas were further made famous by the Steely Dan song, Bodhisattva, with lyrics ‘Bodhisattva won’t you take me by the hand?’ What a wonderful sentiment and activity. One who makes it their purpose to assist others in reaching the highest state possible. Isn’t it really nice to think about?
‘Bodhisattva won’t you take me by the hand?’
What I want you do to, though, is also think about not only what the Bodhisattva does and offers people, and the greatness of that, but consider what the Bodhisattva needs from you.
What is your part in it? What does the Bodhisattva need from you?
I’ll ask more specifically, ‘What does the Bodhisattva need you to do?’ What is it that you need to do for the Bodhisattva to be able to help you?’
If the answer came immediately, then great. You are ahead of the ballgame.
If you are still wondering, then there is work to do.
So, I’ll go ahead and tell you…what the Bodhisattva needs you to do is to ‘reach’. The Bodhisattva, or anyone else wanting to assist you, needs you to reach.
Let’s explore what this means. One definition of reach is to ‘stretch out an arm in a specified direction in order to touch or grasp something.’ Another definition of reach is ‘to get to a particular level, especially a high one.’
Why reaching is important? Reaching is important because it shows intent, purpose, willingness and desire. These are huge essential components in advancement. It also clearly establishes a direction. Think about this for moment.
Living in a world of free choice, though there are many who can assist us greatly, there are just some things and part of the journey we have to do ourselves. Reaching is one of them. Others can’t assist us without our asking or permitting.
During a spiritual session once, when I was asking the Master’s many questions, one of them paused and said ‘Thank you for reaching.’ It initially struck me as odd, as I was the one in need of help so, why were they thanking me? But, now I completely get it. They were thanking me because the act of reaching serves to help me. On another level, they are stuck or greatly limited in assisting me until I reach.
During another session, Hawk shared with me that her gifts were of bringing messages to spirit. I asked for her assistance and then thanked her for helping me with a certain task. She looked at me and smiled and thanked me for using her talents.
I think, inherently as humans, we are reluctant to ask for help. We feel it would be an imposition for another. What a delight and refreshing perspective that one would enjoy using and sharing their talents.
It is a gift to be able to share your gifts. It is a beautiful thing to witness and every single one of my clients, I have thanked for allowing me to assist and be part of their beautiful soul healing and development.
As humans, we are on the path of growth and development. As my crow family shares, ‘We all benefit from growth and development.’ Share your gift with others. Allow others to share their gifts with you. And above all, reach!
